Key Focus: Submersible Water Pumps and its 9 Types.

What are submersible water pumps?

The submersible water pump is a mechanical device that transforms fluid underground from a low-pressure to a high-pressure environment. This pump’s key advantage is that it prevents cavitation in the pump’s components. A submersible pump, unlike jet pumps, pushes fluid to the surface, creating a vacuum by relying on atmospheric pressure. As a result, submersible pumps outperform jet pumps in terms of efficiency.

Submersible water pumps have grown quite popular and in demand in recent years. These submersible pumps come in diversifying styles, each with its unique set of features.

9 Types of Submersible water pumps

  • Grinder Pumps

A grinder pump is a conveyance device mainly used for wastewater management. Waste generated from households considering bathtubs, toilets, washing machines, kitchen basins, etc. flows through the household pipes and enters grinder pumps holding/collecting tanks. Once the wastewater reaches the mark limit, the grinder pump converts the wastewater into a fine slurry and is transferred into a septic tank or sewage system.

  • Submersible utility pumps

The submersible pump is a highly adaptable multi-purpose pump that can be used in a variety of applications. A submersible utility pump is used to remove water from construction sites, basements, water beds, and aquariums. All you have to do is take the service/utility pump, place it in the deepest part of the water that needs to be pumped out, and turn it on.

  • Booster pumps

The idea behind booster pumps is to increase water pressure by introducing an additional pump into the fluid flow system. Most centrifugal pumps take water from the source and move it through an impeller (single stage) or many impellers (multistage impeller) to increase water pressure. The high-pressure water then flows out through an outlet. One can also install a series of booster pumps along the pipeline to achieve the desired pressure as required.

  • Oil Filled Pumps

The oil-filled submersible pumps use oil to cool the motor, which helps to increase its performance. These pumps are easy to install and use and have a wide application in industry, residential, and drainage systems. They transfer water from diverse water bodies.

  • Borehole Submersible pumps

The borehole submersible water pumps are installed in-ground and extract the underground water used in various industrial, residential, and agriculture applications. The borehole submersible has a complex installation process compared to other on-ground service pumps, but they have high efficiency and performance.

  • Stainless Steel Submersible pumps

Stainless Steel has high corrosion resistance properties, strength, and temperature resistance. Plus, they have an attractive appearance and is environment friendly. The preferred stainless steel used in the industry is AISI SS 304 and AISI SS 316. The submersible pumps which are made up of stainless steel have great advantages over any other pumps.

  • Dry Pit Submersible Pumps

Dry submersible pumps are designed to be used in applications where the pump unit is submerged in liquid. Drywell stations with separate wet well and dry pump chambers are used in submersible pumps. Dry submersible pumps have replaced old centrifugal pumps. They have high efficiency and long operation life.

  • Bladder Pumps

Bladder Pumps operate with air-driven action, ideal for both gentle low-flow sampling and high-flow rate purging. Timed ON/OFF cycles of compressed air alternately squeeze the flexible bladder to displace water out the pump to the surface and then exhaust the air allowing the pump to refill. The bladder pumps are used in various fluid sampling applications.

  • Deep well pumps

Deep well submersible pumps are used for underwater applications and they are extremely easy to install, use and maintain. The deep well pumps must be completely submerged in water for fast and accurate operation. The main applications where deep well submersible pumps are irrigation, draining excess water, and pumping water from wells and boreholes.
